This week we will be looking at a wide range of geographical resources for taking your family history research further. Here is the handout, and printouts will be available in class.
Last week, while discussing the 1939 Register, a major new online census-type resource for England and Wales, we briefly touched on access to the Scottish records from it. These have been made available through Freedom of Information, but the whole database is not available for searching. Instead, requests have to be made for information on individuals. This costs £15 per request, and a copy of the individual's death certificate also has to be supplied, in compliance with Data Protection provisions. There is further guidance and a link to the request form on the National Records of Scotland website, here: http://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/research/guides/national-register
